Mission Style Architecture and design is functional and practical. It emphasizes clean lines and crisp forms. Frank Lloyd Wright is generally acknowledged as America’s most original architect. Not content with designing buildings, he extended his artistic control to interior decoration, designing furniture, textiles and stained glass windows. His work is revolutionary, as he was the first to adopt the open house floor plan. Over the course of seventy years his work evolved from Prairie style to Usonian style and later to Organic Style architecture. When discussing Mission style Gustav Stickley must be mentioned as well. He can be credited as the most influential furniture designer of the Mission Oak style. His magazine “Craftsman” played a big role in popularizing Mission style in America at the time.
